This
highly interactive course teaches all the skills
in all four DBT skills modules (Core Mindfulness,
Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance
and Emotion Regulation), as well as an extra
module, the steps in Skills Coaching. |
In addition to Behavioral Practice via goup therapy simulation, learners have the opportunity to engage in helpful learning activities with feedback. The “clients” make objections and struggle with the problems in learning and motivation that are experienced by typical DBT clients. On some occasions, the clients do not understand the skills or use them accurately. You, the skills leader, learn how to intervene when emotion gets high or therapy interfering behavior emerges. Learners become the skills trainers and respond to questions and problems of the clients.
|
Then,
DBT experts intervene to give feedback on possible
alternative paths, tell stories of what they
have learned to anticipate in skills training
and to meta-instruct what works for them when
they have a difficult moment in skills training. |
| At the end of each module, learners will be presented with multiple choice testing and self assessment to help them determine their understanding of the material. |
This
course is an excellent means of training
new team members, milieu/line staff and strengthening
existing team members’ skills. |
| In all,
this course is designed to teach you specific
content while demonstrating exactly how to teach
and coach skills and what to do when clients
don’t understand the skills or don’t
use them. |
